Dave East Talks 2016 XXL Freshman Spot, Nas, And New Mixtape

Born and raised in Spanish Harlem, NY, rapper, Dave East emerges as one of new leading artist representing the East Coast. REVOLT got the chance to chat with East after his first performance in Chicago, on his “Hate Me Now” Tour. Landing a spot in the 2016 XXL Freshman Class his following and recognition continues to grow. “Regardless of who I’m on the cover with, regardless of the year I made it or whatever, it just adds on and brings me more fans, more haters, more love. It just brings me more to my brand,” stated East.
As he prepares to drop his newest project, Kairi Chanel, East discussed the various changes and growth he’s experienced in life and as an artist since the release of his project, Black Rose in 2014. East went on to comment that “from Black Rose to now, my life changed tremendously, I had a daughter, like, I don’t live in the projects anymore. I was just in a dark space as far as the music I was making… [I] met Nas, so once I met him it really started to change for me. I got people lookin at New York City again, for New York City.”
